High pressure sodium grow lights

If you are new to hydroponic gardening, you must be feeling a little overwhelmed by all the different types of grow lights that are available. Each light may be suitable for specific purposes, such as helping plants grow in different stages of maturity. Those who You may have heard are high pressure sodium grow lights. This type of grow light produces light when sodium is excited, and provides a good light by which to grow plants.

HPS Grow lights are also lights gas discharge. This means that your lamps high pressure sodium, emit light, sending an electric current through a plasma, or ionized gas. HPS lamps typically use the noble gas xenon to get things started in terms of production of light because it gets in the way of chemical reactions that occur in the arc tube.

A combination mercury and sodium is in a tube made of a product called Alumina. Alumina is made of aluminum oxide, which allows light to pass diffusely through it. This material is used for the tube, because it resists substantial chemical activity caused by the arc at high pressure sodium. Electrodes are attached to either end arc tube, and a voltage c / is used to power the device. The voltage flows to the electrodes, which excites the sodium, causing it to produce light. If the switch is turned into position, pure tension could cause the uncontrolled explosion of the lamp. To prevent this from happening, sodium lamps, high- pressure are always used in conjunction with a ballast. A reactor is used to regulate the amount of current flowing through the arc. The stabilizing effect of ballast on the current HPS lamps allows to operate in a constant and not in isolation.

HPS lamps can last over 20,000 hours. When they are ready to burn, they begin to cycle. The lamp can be started with a low voltage and heat during operation. Heat increases the gas pressure in the outlet, and we need much voltage to maintain the arc. As the bulb gets old, it takes more voltage to compensate for the high pressure gas and, finally, that the voltage exceeds the amount of ballast can provide safe, so that the reactor contains the arc. This cool the discharge tube, which reduces the gas pressure inside the tube, and once it reaches a safe temperature lamp will come back again, because the ballast will reactivate when the temperature is correct. Thus, the light will grow on and off several times. When that starts happening, you know you will soon be time to replace the HPS lamps.
