If I start a weight training regimen to aid in fat loss, I get bulky? It is important for weight training?

In recent two years I gained about 51 pounds. I'm 21 and I weigh 165 pounds. That would not be so bad if I were 5'8''mas I'm only 5'1''. I want to come down to a healthy weight. About 125. (I was 114, but I think it was much smaller. Looked "knobby" so to speak. When I was 120-125 l looked great.) Anyway, I start a workout routine, but do not know where to start. I know I need at least 30 minutes of cardio a day. How intense? Is it okay to me to lift weights? My boyfriend tells me lifting weights is important for fat loss, but I'm really concerned about the appearance of a linebacker. Until now, in my family both women and men to build muscle mass quickly, even if they start with light weight lifting. I want to build strength will also be greater that "fall" with some light weight lifting consistent? I used to love to run (only for pleasure and inconsistent – stress reliever), but my thighs were higher for a while and then became smaller. Weight training the same job?

I did a weight lifting class in college, and my teacher said that to tone up the muscles that you use lighter weights and more repetitions. To build muscle mass you use heavy weights. For purposes of weight loss, muscle burns more calories than fat does, so you want a higher proportion of muscle in your body (within reason, of course). Do not weight train the same muscles all the day. They need rest between workouts. In addition, make sure you drink enough water, it helps to expel waste products made by weight training. Good luck in reaching your goals!
