Muscle Building Sleep

muscle building sleep

I know I promised to put a post about the negative implications of alcohol on fat burning and muscle building, but I'll put that up at another time. This seems more important now.

This week I had more than a few conversations with clients who told me they were not getting enough sleep. Some of them were receiving four hours, while others were getting only five hours a night. Not good. Not good at all.

Got a big question for you. As I would be fat and old before your time? If you are not sleeping enough, which is exactly what you're doing. I confess, I have a continuous line I like to use and miss. When someone tells me: "Tony, you need quiet and rest. Do not push it too hard." I always like to say back, "I will not stop or slow down. I'll sleep when I die." LOL:)

Well, the joke is on me if I really believe that, and worse, to live it. Truth be told, without good sleep you're just an empty shell of what you could if you had a good night's rest.

I want you to take that at the time and read what I said again. If you're not getting at least 6-8 hours of sleep a night, then you are a empty shell of what you could be. This is serious and we all need to take it that way.

Failure on your current weight loss or exercise program can be directly related to their lack of sleep. You can assign desires, over-eating and even weight gain for the poor sleep patterns. But wait, it gets much worse than that.

There are many studies, recent and some dating back more than a decade, finding a direct correlation between lack of sleep and the following: hypertension, metabolic diseases, diabetes and memory loss to name a few. Basically, these are all hallmarks of aging.

Although I understand that we have some nights that may seem out of our control, instead most of us choose to live this way. Yes, it is important to take time to relax of your busy day. Otherwise, sometimes it seems that is only one day become part of another. We need time to gather our thoughts and just kick back. I understood. I truly. But many of us are opting for television or computer instead of sleep and that is a foolish decision.

If you do not is sleeping enough, serious negative implications will arise:

Greater weight gain and obesity. There are many factors that may play a role in increased fat and weight gain. Recent studies show an increased appetite for more calories on the day following sleep deprivation. Especially, carbohydrates were principal desire. Lack of sleep can lead not only to increased consumption of calories, but most be in the form of carbohydrates that can impact blood sugar and storage fat.

The lack of focus and mental clarity.

Sensitivity to stress leading to disorders such as depression, constipation and digestive problems.

Hormonal imbalance: leptin and grehlin are two hormones involved in body weight.

If lack of sleep occurs very often, the levels of grehlin increases, causing increased appetite, and leptin levels will decrease. Even though a person may be involved in the exercise, it is possible that obesity is caused or aggravated by sleep deprivation. Other hormones are negatively affected thyroid and cortisol. Put simply, does not gain muscle and fat will occur will increase and get stuck around your waist as a result.

weakened immune system

Memory loss

Increased risk of pressure High and type 2 diabetes.

Interestingly, when those involved in the studies were able to benefit sleep their bodies were not required (12 hours or more), all changes to sleep deprivation is back to normal. However, it is important to note that those who took only eight hours of sleep has yet to recover health complete. All this to say, sleep is essential for burning fat, lifestyle, muscle building.

How is your sleep doing lately?
